STORYBOARD PICS

A boy peers over a glowing box of tin soldiers as it opens and emits a distinct golden glow.  *He gasps* and takes it to the counter
The boy arranges the tin soldiers in lines of 6 upon a desk, noticing that one has a broken leg and throwing it across the desks surface.  The unfinished soldier (as if magnetic) springs upright stilted upon its singular leg. a bright glare hits the eyes of the soldier, peering across the room it notices a paper ballerina near a window whos spangle is glimmering in the sunlight.  *A smile passes its somewhat motionless corpse*  A troll spy's upon this unspoken contact between the soldier and the ballerina.  *The troll emits ferocious growl*
Night passes, the soldier awakes.  *a panicked expression arrises* as the soldier finds itself falling from the windowsil. To beady eyes appear from the darkness of the enclosed room, suggestably the troll.
The soldier find itself upon the road where two kids joyfully kick around a worn soccer-ball, they spot the soldier and place him upon a handcrafted paper oragami boat adn set him in a flowing stream of water.  *the soldiers face remains expressionless*  the boat then passes into the depths of a drain upon the curb.
The paper boat falls apart as it passes throught thes running waters and the soldier is washed upon a shore of rubbish and sewage. This is when a menacing sewer rat emerges to imply a passing toll upon the soldier.  As the soldier stands there clueless and in a position of disadvatage, the rat snatches a piuece of cheese that had been scewered to his gun on passing throught the rapid waters of the sewer. the rat allows him passage.
Moments later the soldier is snatched out of the water by a ferocious fish.
In succession the fish is washed into a lake and is caught by a local fisherman and his son. Coincedently the son is the previously owner of the soldier and his dad finds it inside the fish when he cuts it open for dinner, The father then hands the soldier to the son incase the kid found some form of interest.   *the childs face snarls in disgust*
The soldier is taken to the childs room in which he is reunited with his love, the ballerina.
This reunion however is cut short when the kid snatche the soldier and throws him thrust into the furnace. At this moment the paper ballerina is caught by a drapht and is blown into the fire with him. The two figures melt into one and form the shape of a heart.

StoryBoard - Hans Christian Andersen. 'The Steadfast Tin Soldier'

PLOT

On his birthday, a boy receives a set of 25 toy soldiers and arrays them on a table top. One soldier stands on a single leg, having been the last one cast from an old tin spoon. Nearby, he spies a paper ballerina with a spangle on her sash. She too is standing on one leg and the soldier falls in love. That night, a troll among the toys angrily warns the soldier to take his eyes off the ballerina, but the soldier ignores him. The next day, the soldier falls from a windowsill (presumably the work of the troll) and lands in the street. Two boys find the soldier, place him in a paper boat, and set him sailing in the gutter. The boat and its passenger wash into a storm drain, where a rat demands the soldier pay a toll. Sailing on, the boat is washed into a canal, where the tin soldier is swallowed by a fish. When the fish is caught and cut open, the tin soldier finds himself once again on the table top before the ballerina. Inexplicably, a boy throws the tin soldier into the fire. A wind blows the ballerina into the fire with him; she is consumed at once but her spangle remains. The tin soldier melts into the shape of a heart.

INK drawing of the tales premise.

I chose to do this tale as the basis for my storyboard as i found it could be related most effectively to my hand-drawn greylead style. (continue)

WE COME IN PEACE. my design brief.

Over the last few weeks NASA (a company whom produces and carry's out all of the scientific space projects such as the moon landing) has been trying to come up with an effective approach to the idea of communicating with aliens located inside the milky way but have been producing ineffective results. In result, they have contacted me and asked if I could create for them a series of pictographic messages that could display a simple greeting in which these life forms could recognize.

We have been chosen to design this because we have the means and the ability to think outside of the box. Considering that these 'aliens' have no visual reference to anything homo sapian, we must speak to them using the general definitions of shapes and forms. These images are to be designed to confront the aliens with a non-threatening inviting and informative presence. The image has been advised to have a somewhat lack of colour unless necessary eg. (to create emphasis on a key part of the project) but otherwise shall consist of none but thick blacks and creamy whites. Currently Mendecco Designs is creating a similar logo for an independent group whom holds the same ideals and expectations as NASA and are in co-operation with the two projects. We have a deadline of 2 week due to this as the projects conflict and NASA has been strictly advised to use the more beneficial and effective pictograph.

Our audience is quite the unusual one as the normal groups of age and society can be referenced to stereotypical response, but the audience being that of the alien kind gives more of a spontaneous and perhaps falsely influenced approach. We have to take in all accounts of these alien life forms for example they mightn't be visually abled relying on scent and touch to navigate or they might be prone to aggressive behaviour and as such the image must be perfectly channelled to their temperament. Due to all of these unknown factors, we must approach a more moderate and less radical influence in accordance to our already considered knowledge of these life forms.

The whole aim of this project is to greet whom ever might be out there and incite a friendly response whether they be intellectual or merely animalistic space inhabitants. In reference to these aims we are to create these pictographs to be as universally understandable as possible and to be unrelated to any human cultures or activities yet to show us to be a life form in relation to any other. In the long run the image is aimed to be a simple black and white 6 by 6 metre cube image that defines these aims and the purpose of this project.

Originally this was in a power-point but I figured i would upload it to my blog so if people were interested they could have a peek.

Illustrator Heart Design.

I pretty much hate illustrator and find it to be a useless program for anything apart from cool and interesting texts. This project was probably the most difficult in relation again to the lack of access to ADOBE CS5 programs, but with alot of work and many tedious steps i managed to create this. :/

Then with some extra work i created this...

All together i find the illustrator system to be far more complicated that it need be and would far prefer using Adobe Flash to draw images as it is based solely on the use of an effective and easy to use brush tool.

A few pictures i drew on the train to uni.

ANother Motion Task - Text Test

As well as using a text mask in this exampl,e i tried to time the transitions with the motion of the dancer.

Original Motion Draft

This was my original motion project that i completed during learning how to navigate the windows and functions of the program. It is quite bland and the blending of the characters with the backround is a bit blurry.

After completing this project i decided to experiment a bit further with progrem and thus i created the following.

In comparison with the two videos, i feel i have learned a great amount about the use of green screens and masking, these being tools i would use a remarkable amount of in the film/animation career that i wish to pursue.

Fructiv - Poster Assignment

This is my attempt at making the 'Fructiv' poster via use of the instructions given. Due to the innabiltity to use CS5 some of the steps were a bit harder to follow, but in completion of the task i have learned much more about the deeper functions of photoshop.  The part i struggled with most was the use of the pen tool to create glowing lines around the subject matter as no matter what i did, it failed to have any similar appearance to the given example. I have found that my ability to refine my artworks in photoshop has improved thoroughly through attempting this project.

CYBERBULLYING POSTERS

My main idea for this project was to focus on a form of exaggerated cyber-bullying advertisements, designed to give reason for its prevention as it is very viral part of many childhood lives and is involved in a number of suicides in young teens. I wanted to follow a similar basis of imaging as shown by the artists given (e.g. Jenny Holzer, Babera Kruger). My first idea for this was to create an image displaying a war between an army of robots and write a witty phrase that related it to cyber-bullying. As i am not a very creative lyricist or writer in that matter the wording was fairly illogical and considerably unrelated, i tried hard to consider differant forms of displaying the meaning via writing but stuggled so just stuck with this original text. I thorughly enjoyed fideling with levels on photoshop with this image to create that dark, gloomy and practically apocalyptic image. This first image was designed for older age groups (25 ^). This can be seen via is previosly discussed gloomy and gritty nature, though its concept is quite childish and unrealistic in nature it contains aspects of both dark and straight forward implications via use of the text 'destroy' and 'don't cyber bully'.  Due to the lack of visual aid in the displaying the purpose of the image the text was vital in its understanding.

The second image I had made was designed for younger audiences (5-15).The reason for this poster being entirely visual is to speak with kids of a younger age as they are mostly influenced by images and action seen on T.V. I filled this image with a large array of vibrant colours surrounding the isolated child at the bottom of the page to give more influence tot the darkness that surrounds and envelops him. I found this piece to be the most visually relevant due to the lack of space cramped together with eyes and screaching expressions. This is the exact depictation of cyberbullying to me as it is impossible to escape from and is an extremely claustaphobic situation. I loved the aspect of vertical symmetry in this image, not so much in the way of even shapes upon both sides, but in the way that one side is depicting the emotional impact upon the victim and the other is displaying the perpetrators actions and expressions.

This image was designed for audiences more relative to the younge adult area (16-24). It was the most inspired by the artists given to us as examples within the email. I found these to be most inspirational within this image as the use of words to create direction and leading lines within the image are incredibly effective. This image was my favourite of the images that i created for this assignment as it was both text based and visual and both were perfectly balanced to diplay its ideas and meaning in a directly clear point of view. I also like the vibrance of the flame backed upon the text to give it somewhat more emphasis and against the thick tones of the textured backing gradient. I enjoyed creating this image via the mixture of a greylead and fineliner as it kept a clear crisp look while maintaining a thickly toned appearance.

HOOCHFEST - Event Poster

an event poster i decided to make using the techniques used in the last tute

Friday 18 March 2011

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

My font was origanally going to be a basic helvetica trace over, but as i lost this progress due to my brother being an eco freak and turning off the computer whenever i sit up to scratch my bottom, i had lost this progress thus i started anew. In my second design i decide to use what utenisils would be quickest to get the job done and so i produced most of the basic shapes and forms of the letters on photoshop, which intriguingly gave it a more clean structured appearance. Now in most cases i would be glad to bestow this appearance upon my work but the theme being rubbish it needed to have a more gritty and undefined look to its edges and curves. Through this realisation i decide to move onto flash giving a rough edge texture to the letters via the unique lining techniques that flash can imply. I then drew over the template design with a opaque green colouring to create a slimy almost unnapealing look to the text. All of these factors aside the text was still missing something, it seemed somewhat to linear to what i had first imagined. To break this linear tracking along the font i removed one of the key vouls in the text and replaced it with a picture of a cigerette, which i had cropped and filterd on photoshop. Finally to top it all off I dotted the 'i' (or cigerette) with a screwed up ball of paper which the same effects had been applied to.

DONE.

my font, 1 night completion... brilliant
